Android users had been waiting for pinch-to-zoom capabilities in their mobile Gmail apps and now that wait is over. Google (News
- Alert) has now released its new Gmail 4.2 app.
The new Gmail 4.2 app enables users to zoom in by pinching their e-mails with a pinch-to zoom feature. New additions to the app include a brand new gallery view for e-mails with multiple image attachments, in-app video and photo attachment capability and larger photo previews. With a simple swipe the users can delete or archive their e-mails.
The new Gmail 4.2 app can “auto-fit” a message to the phone screens of users. For this users will need to turn on auto-fit under Settings > General Settings. Google has been trying to make its Gmail app for Android (News - Alert) more road-worthy and users can use the new swipe feature to get into their inbox quickly. The new gallery view enables thumbnail view for images and videos that come attached to the message.
However, the new app will need a bit of customization. Some settings need to be enabled first including a pinch-to-zoom feature. The new swipe gesture can also be configured as per the users' liking. Using the swipe feature makes everything simpler. The swipe feature can be customized and users can delete or disable the swipes altogether.
In order to archive e-mail messages from the inbox, users need to swipe left ofrright. If one wants to delete e-mails directly from the inbox, the settings should be changed by visiting Settings > General settings > Swiping conversation list.
New Gmail 4.2 app is only available for phones that are running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich or higher. For the older devices there is not much to cheer about for now. The update is available at Google Play stores for download.
Google is also making its Gmail app for Android more road-worthy. The latest version now lets users get into their inbox quickly through a new swipe feature.
